If you feel your breast size is small and/or drooping & wish that your breasts were larger and fuller, then breast augmentation surgery may be the right choice for you. Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast. Breast augmentation is the second most common aesthetic surgical procedure performed around the world (The first is Liposuction). Millions & millions of ladies worldwide have undergone this procedure & are now proud of their beautiful looking breasts. Surveys after breast augmentation show one of the highest rates of patient satisfaction amongst all cosmetic surgical procedures. Most women find their new curves give them a greater sense of confidence in all aspects of their lives.
Your decision to have breast augmentation is a highly personal one. The shape & the projection you desire decide the size, type & position of the implant, the access for the surgery & the volume of the implant. Remember, just as you will not expect “one size fit all” in clothing or bra, no single implant type or technique will suit every woman’s requirement due to their preferences as well as differences in their breast and body shape.
Some patients are blessed with a naturally good shape, where breast augmentation surgery simply involves increasing the volume. In others, we modify the shape of the breasts as well as increase the volume, by an appropriately chosen implant type and size.
This may also involve different approaches (below the breast, by incision in the armpit, or around the nipple) & different placement techniques ( above /below the muscle or dual plane) The whole issue of how & where to place the implant is to ensure that the implant is not visible and cannot be felt when touched.
Some women seeking breast enlargement surgery may require a simultaneous breast lift to enlarge their breast and lifting of the excessively droopy breast tissue to optimise the results. In others a simple nipple reshaping may be requested to complement the surgery.
No two breasts are the same and as such your choice of surgeon should be experienced enough to use different types of implant and techniques that suit your need. At the consultation, we can discuss the size of the augmentation you want & its feasibility for your body morphology.
Breast augmentation takes 1 to 2 hours.
Day Care or overnight stay.
You are likely to feel sore for a day or two but you can be up and around after 24 hours. The discomfort is controlled by oral medications. After the first dressing you will be advised to use a sports bra regularly for at least 4 weeks. You must avoid sudden excessive movements at your shoulder. Stitches will be removed by 7th day. Driving is permitted after 2 weeks and exercise after 2 to 3 weeks. Avoid physical contact for about three to four weeks after surgery. The scars will be firm and pink for at least 6 weeks after which they generally begin to fade. Breast augmentation does not cause breast cancer, affect fertility, pregnancy or breast feeding
You may have a detailed discussion about this during your personal consultation. As with any surgical procedure, there is a small chance of a blood clot around the implant, an infection or capsular contracture. Occasionally, breast implants may break or leak. Nipple or breast sensation may change, usually temporarily.
